SDW Coexistence By Design
3D Graphics Depicting Singapore's Current Environmental Challenges and Efforts for Improvement
I was responsible for the main visual of 'Coexistence by Design,' an event held during Singapore Design Week, organized in collaboration with Jane Goodall Singapore and Creativeans.
The key visual was created based on the direction of the organizers, using a miniature model to depict the environmental realities of Singapore. It reflects the city's geographic features, including the height of buildings, as well as factors like latitude, longitude, and the distinction between the dry and wet seasons.
I independently sketched and designed the visuals for all three events. The first event, 'Guided Nature Walk,' took place at Dairy Farm Nature Park and was a trekking experience offering participants an opportunity to get close to wildlife and nature. It also aimed to educate people about coexisting with nature in Singapore, where natural habitats are scarce. To visually represent the idea that the path grows as participants walk, symbolizing the growth of coexistence with nature, I created an animation of trees sprouting along the path.
The second event, 'Panel Discussion,' brought together a diverse group of people, including environmentalists and architects, to share their thoughts on creating a sustainable future. I expressed the idea of artificial concrete buildings and natural forest blocks moving closer and connecting through lines in the animation.
The final event, 'Kokedama Design Workshop,' was an experience where participants could plant in moss balls. Although it may seem like a playful and simple activity, the goal was to introduce a more approachable form of planting and spark interest in gardening. For this, I used clouds to depict the kokedama spinning like a rotating Earth, symbolizing how the seemingly insignificant kokedama gradually becomes covered in green, much like the Earth.
